Hindsæter

It was the mountain farms ("sætrene") that welcomed the first adventurers and tourists eager to explore and experience Jotunheimen, and the mountain farm tradition at Hindsæter dates back as far as 1683. The hotel was built in 1898 and hosted artists inspired by the beautiful mountain scenery. Because of this, the hotel was colloquially referred to as the "artist hotel" for a period. The cultural landscape still bears the marks of the mountain farm history, with timber mountain farmhouses, stone fences, ski fences, and grazing animals. You can still enjoy the view of the Sjoa River, Stuttgonglie Nature Reserve, and the peaks of Jotunheimen – just as it was over a hundred years ago.

Traces of this history can be found in the rooms, in the mountain farm suites, inside the mountain library, in the mountain spa, and, of course, in the old timber cabins serving as dining rooms. Traces of nature and culture can be found in the food and the way it is served, in the ingredients, in the drink selection, in the hearths, and in the storehouses on the farmstead.

André Sundero and Karola Wenzel have been the owners and hosts at Hindsæter since 2004. As true mountain enthusiasts and enthusiasts of rural culture and food, they happily share hidden gems with their guests. Four-legged Frost and Hindine provide entertainment and affection – mostly outdoors!
