Heidi Vallestad and Sigurd Årskaug warmly welcome all visitors to Flatheim, a place with deep roots and a proud history. While Heidi has her roots on the farm, Sigurd hails from the neighboring village. Since 2005, they have been graciously hosting guests on the farm under the name Flatheim, which is the farm's moniker.
Their pride in history is evident, particularly in their commitment to preserving the legacy of Heidi's grandparents, who initiated the business in 1949. This legacy harks back to the era when Selma and Jens operated Hoff Pensjonat and a gas station. Right from the outset, tourism has been seamlessly integrated with traditional farming practices.
At Flatheim, a reverence for antiquity and narratives prevails. The small gas station, constructed in 1963, has undergone meticulous restoration. Here, both guests and passersby can explore and acquire interior treasures, local products, ice cream, and coffee. In the main house's basement, a charming blend of old and slightly newer items is curated—a collection preserved to create space for nostalgic moments and reflections.
Flatheim has earned certification as a Norwegian Ecotourism business. Their focus encompasses reducing their ecological footprint, conveying local history, utilizing local goods, and maximizing the recycling of buildings and furnishings. A sustainable approach has been realized through the utilization of geothermal and solar energy to power and heat the hotel.
